First memories of pirate stations are from 2001, but the interest towards Pirate DX turned passion during a DXpedition UKI74 in Uusikaupunki in 2004. At that time I had listened mostly legal BC stations for 6 years. With two hobby colleagues we stayed for a weekend in November 2004, in a cottage close to Turku, South Western Finland. Our aim was to hear stations from British Isles, but in some way we ended up to 1600-1700 kHz. On 1636 we heard Radio Zender Bizon from Veenendaal. Tuomas solved the mobile number announced in Dutch and I, after half a year German studies, wanted to contact station. I still remember the feeling when we heard him greeting “Jan Michael, Thomas und Hanu in Finnland”. That was my first contact with a “mysterious” pirate station! First free radio reception report I sent to the legendary Radio Barones 1646 kHz 24 December 2004.
